TETCOS' WORKSHOP ON COMPUTER NETWORKS

As mentioned in our previous post ,the much awaited one-day workshop on 'Computer Networks' was conducted by TETCOS,Bangalore(developer of NETSIM ) in association with SAECE under TEQIP Student Development Program on June 23,2011 in the Seminar Hall of the Dept of ECE.

The workshop commenced exactly at 11'o clock(system engineers from TETCOS installed NETSIM & checked its viability). The program was initiated with the welcome address by Mr.K.Ijaz Ahamed,Secretary of SAECE.It was followed by a refreshing Patron's address by Mr.P.K.Jayadev, Principal,GCE,Salem.
Dr.R.S.D.Wahida Banu, our much honorable HOD, gave an inspiring speech which kindled the technical attributes inside our student's minds. Later,Ms.Kalpana Gaur,Placement Co-ordinator gave a brief intro about Mr.Pranav Viswanadhan from TETCOS( an IIT-M alumni) to the gathering.Mr.Pranav gave an industry-oriented speech(the kind we would expect from an IITian). And to finish it off,

Mr.Guru Prasanth,Treasurer of SAECE, delivered the Vote of thanks which ended the inaugural session.

The morning technical session started with the introduction about the evolution of Computer  Networks and their supporting softwares, network programming,et all which gave us a basic understanding about the networking realm. It was followed by the demonstration of the software 'NETSIM' (jointly developed by TETCOS and IISC,Bangalore).
The working of the software(academic version intended for universities) in both its modes(sample and user) was taught and demonstrated the working of Ethernet, Token ring, Token bus protocols and shortest path calculation algorithms with the help of hubs, routers and switches. The session also included a clear animated explanation of CSMA/CD technique which uses 'Truncated Exponential Binary Back Off' algorithm.
In the afternoon session the students were trained in two batches one after the other  in VLSI Lab. It dealt with  hands-on training using LAN trainer kit and NETSIM software with emphasis on network programming and wireless LAN protocol. The work was related to the academic curriculum and experiments like File transferring from server to client, wireless access in LAN using the TETCOS LAN trainer kit were explained by TETCOS  engineers.

Simultaneously an interactive session between Mr. Pranav and our students took place at the seminar hall. The topics discussed includes corporate culture of the industries, products and service alignment of the engineering world, core and non-core industries. This informative chat helped us to get aware of the responsibilities awaiting us in the corporate world.
The program came to an end with the valedictory session. Mementos were presented to the TETCOS team who made the day memorable for us with their expertise. The organizing team and our HOD toiled hard to make this workshop an informative, useful and memorable one for us. Thanks to the invaluable steps taken by our Head of the Department. That is all for today's edition of 'ELITE ECE TODAY!' and stay connected to know more about the tight schedule ahead.
